Consider proposing a motion that there shall be an early general election.
Parliament has the power to propose a motion “That there shall be an early parliamentary general election” under Section 2 of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011.
We, the undersigned, ask the House to consider to do so.
In the referendum held on 23 June 2016 the electorate voted to Leave the European Union.
The Prime Minister has announced his intention to resign, and there is evidence that the electorate has changed its position since the referendum as it is clear the Leave campaign cannot deliver on its promises.
Only by holding a general election can the government have the mandate of the electorate either to Leave the EU - or to Remain if the winning party campaigns on that basis.
