Provide accountability for the content and conduct of political campaigns.
A regulatory authority should be established to enforce minimum standards of honesty and decency during political campaigns. Marketing and methods that are dishonest, misleading or socially irresponsible should be investigated, prohibited and punished accordingly.
It is currently UK law that consumer advertising must abide by certain regulations. All marketing and advertising must be: an accurate description of the product or service, legal, decent, truthful, honest and socially responsible.
Political campaigning and marketing has the potential to influence decisions that have much greater and far reaching consequences and should be held to an equivalent, if not higher, standard.
