Create an election body to validate that voter information is accurate and fair.
If a business advertises and what it says is misleading then the ASA will review it. Sanctions follow for any business that misleads
Election information needs similar scrutiny.
Democracy works best in a world in which there is trust in the process, trust in the people involved, and trust in the information we are provided with.
The electoral commission has the power to oversee expenditure provide guidance to returning officers to ensure smooth running. They do not review claims made during the process by the protagonists.
This petition recommends that they (or a new body) does review election claims (when referred by the public) to ensure they are as accurate as possible.
To ensure fair and transparent elections, breaches would require sanctions to correct the influence of the misleading or factually incorrect information.
