To ensure road safety measures around schools in the UK
The petitioners believe that there is a need for safety measures around schools in the United Kingdom in order to prevent injury and death of children ; and that the petitioners believe that the technical criteria used by local authorities when considering requests for pedestrian crossings are outdated and need to be changed with regard to schools.
The Petitioners therefore request that the Government bring forward proposals for a Bill that will ensure that all schools will have compulsory 20mph zones near them and safe pedestrian crossing points installed to maintain child safety before and after the school day.
