Call a referendum to confirm or reject the negotiated terms of Brexit
Exit terms negotiated by the government could result in vastly different outcomes. Just as house-buying is subject to survey and contract, these terms should be put to the people for approval or rejection in favour of the status quo. This will improve the UK’s negotiating position for both options.
The EU “only really listen to a population when it says no” (Boris Johnson; http://bit.ly/1oxiWXd). If you said you would take a job whatever the pay, you would get a poor deal. Negotiation needs a credible option to stay put. Improved terms reversed the initial decision in Denmark in 1992 and Ireland in 2001 and 2008. Equally, UK voters can proceed with Brexit if they wish. “In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way” (Nigel Farage: http://bbc.in/1YyFSBD).
