Petition Action

Create a law that bans politicians from public office if they lie materially.

Petition Details

Many problems we have faced as a nation recently have been forced upon us through deceit. The Iraq War, the Conservative Manifesto, now the EU Referendum.
Whichever side of the debate we are on, our political leaders choose to further their own goals through a general deceit of the electorate.

Additional Information

Any decision making process requires informed decision makers, in order to consistently make informed decisions. For any democratic action, the electorate is the decision maker and therefore must be well informed.
If the political and economic class knowingly provides incorrect information, if they are not held to account by a free media, the law must hold their words to account.
If our democracy is to function effectively, it cannot have an uninformed electorate.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
