Petition Action

Request a general election to allow for a new popular mandate

Petition Details

We, the undersigned, call on the Prime Minister (when they are elected at the beginning of September) to call a general election and allow themselves to be elected by the people of the United Kingdom not just Conservative party members

Additional Information

According to the latest available information (accurate to the end of 2014) there are just 149,800 Conservative party members. This represents just 0.32% of the total UK electorate (46,499,537 as recorded in June 2016 for the European Union Referendum). We believe that the new Prime Minister should receive a mandate from the people and not a small section of people who belong to the same party as the Prime Minister.
