Government to resign and call election. Major parties to stand on pro EU agenda
The result of the EU referendum exposes the UK to financial risks that will impact every citizen. It may also lead to a greatly destabalized Europe with the prospect of a rise in far right and left politics that could put an end to the peace that Europe has enjoyed for many decades.
Whilst William Healy's petition calling for a second referendum is admirable, despite gaining over 4M signatures, there appears to be no legal basis for going down this route and only a general election could lead to a proper mandate to ignore the referendum result. We call on Tory, Labour, Lib Dem and the SNP parliamentarians to support a pro European stance.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
The House of Commons is able to trigger an early General Election if criteria set out in the Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 are met.
The following petition calls for an early General Election in the wake of the EU referendum result:
