We want a referendum on Proportional Representation.
Our political system is in crisis. For too long the power has been concentrated in the hands of two parties. Meanwhile other political parties are under represented. First-past-the-post elections have created a system that is warped by power struggles and is stifling alternative views.
Is it right that a party that gets 36.9% of the vote should get 50.8% of MPs?
Is it right that 3.8% of voters for one party are represented by one MP while the 7.9% that voted for another are represented by eight times as many?
Is it right that the voters should give power to parties on the basis that they are the least awful of a choice of two?
We want a system where we can vote for what we believe is best.
We had a referendum on AV (which nobody asked for) but have never had one on PR!
