MP ~ Parliament
Parliament should set up an Office for Electoral Information Integrity.
In the modern age it is possible for all well intentioned MP's to sometimes present incorrect information or correct information in a misleading way. This erodes public confidence both in MPs as well as in the whole political system, which ultimately undermines democracy.
The OEII would have the following functions:
1) define and publish standards for information impartiality and comprehensibility
2) provide advice to MPs on how best to present information in an impartial and generally comprehensible way
3) during the purdah period in the run up to elections or referenda, it would scrutinise information placed in the public domain by political parties or groups and would issue public statements describing how the presented information is deficient when needed.
