When VAT is unfair
In the past, companies trading in both zero and standard rated supplies have been known to take advantage, and have been stopped. Supermarkets seem now to have that advantage.
In the light of current food cost inflation is it right for essential food purchases to subsidise alcohol still seen to be sold at such low prices in supermarkets.
I think government should debate the merits of higher alcohol duty in the off trade and reconsider if supermarkets can be truly responsible retailers of alcohol.
