Petition Action

Reform electoral law so that campaigns are honest and the public is not misled.

Petition Details

In the recent referendum on the decision to Leave or Remain in the EU, many complaints were levied that claims being made were false. Since Leave won they have backed away from several of their claims, this has led many voters who chose Leave frustrated at having voted based on false information.

Additional Information

We should define the statements in campaign material and make it clear to voters which are verifiable statements of fact, which are statements of intent and which are simple opinion.

Facts must be verifiable and statements of intent should include an assessment of the challenges and likelihood of fulfilling that pledge. Opinion is and should be free, but it must be clear that it is either the opinion of a politician or their party.

We deserve more honesty in politics.
