Petition Action

Introduce a law that requires owners to have dogs on leads around livestock

Petition Details

The Protection of Livestock Act states that if a dog worries sheep the person in charge of the dog is guilty of an offence; we want this to go further and make it an offence to have a dog off the lead around livestock as once an attack has occurred it is near impossible to trace the culprit.

Additional Information

In 2015 there were 1,069 incidents attacks on livestock by dogs in the UK a 54% increase in 4 years, each year hundreds of sheep are destroyed due to damage caused by dog worrying and 2016 survey found that this puts an incredible stress on the sheep, an emotional strain on farmers as well as the financial loss of which there is no compensation.
