ban employers from asking what our ethnicity is when applying for a job
I don't think it's fair that employers are allowed to ask what someone's ethnicity is when applying for a job. Someone's ethnicity should play no role when it comes to choosing whether or not someone's going to get a job.
I know of people who have applied for the same position with the same application but some have only been rejected because of their ethnicity. It is more likely for an employer to accept someone who is mixed race than just one race.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
It is already illegal for an employer to discriminate against a potential employee on the basis of race. Sometimes, employers ask candidates to provide diversity data so that they can monitor their ability to attract applicants from different backgrounds. It is illegal to use this data to discriminate against candidates from minority backgrounds. We're not sure what additional steps you want the Government to take.
