Make lying in an election campaign a criminal offence.
Lying in an election or referendum campaign should be treated as electoral fraud. Political campaigns should be legally bound to produce evidence of anything stated as fact in order for the public to be able to make a properly informed decision.
For instance, lying about the amount of money that the UK pays the EU every week and then writing it two feet high on the side of a bus. Or promising to pay that amount of money to the EU and then immediately backtracking on that promise after victory.
