Parliament should hold Tony Blair to account for the war in Iraq

Petition Details

The Chilcot Report has presented a range of evidence that demonstrates that Parliament and the country were misled by Tony Blair in the run up to the war in Iraq. Parliament should now agree a process by which it can hold the former Prime Minister to account.

Government Response

The Government responded to this petition on Wednesday 10th August 2016

The Government recognises the importance, rigour and depth of Sir John Chilcot’s independent Iraq inquiry report, and has made time to debate it.

It made time for a two day debate in the House of Commons and a day long debate in the House of Lords before the Summer recess to enable Parliament to study and debate the report in depth. It has committed to learning the lessons which Sir John identifies from his Inquiry. How Parliament decides to hold Mr Blair to account is a matter for Parliament.
