Petition Action

Make it compulsory for those who failed to vote in the EU referendum to vote.

Petition Details

There was not a clear enough majority in the EU referendum. We would ask that the government makes it compulsory for the none voters in this referendum (27.8% of the UK population) to vote.

Additional Information

This would be a much fairer appraisal of what the whole country really wants and may lead to a different outcome.

We advise the government to perhaps carry out this supplementary vote by postal voting.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Voting is anonymous in this country, so it's not clear how this would be possible.
