Give common law wife/husband same rights as married couples after so many years

Petition Details

I really think that couples that have lived together and choose not to get married for what ever reason should have the same rights as a married couple. I myself have lived with my partner for 35 yrs and very happy has we are, but feel we should have same rights as married couple

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

If you submit a new petition about this, please make sure you are clear and specific about the change you want. Common law marriage does not exist in England and Wales so the Government and Parliament cannot afford "common law spouses" equal rights to married couples.
