Improve & Enforce Press Retraction Policy
Misleading articles are often brandished across all media platforms. When complaints are made & upheld, retractions are always short, almost hidden from view in print, and only briefly noted on other media.
Retractions should be made with the same prominence as the original, incorrect, story.
Without prominent clarification, retractions often go unnoticed by all but those who make & follow complaints, leaving many still believing flawed articles to be true.
Front page/Headline/Lead broadcast news story; However the original piece was presented, the retraction should be presented similarly.
If the misleading item is a single sentence within a leading article, the retraction should be made with a similar sized headline, on the same page (or similar position in tv/radio news program).
