Petition Action

Stop housing development on the former Baildon Moor reservoir site

Petition Details

Baildon Moor is common land owned by Bradford Council who represent us! An oasis for local communities ever since the 1st railway line brought factory workers to spend a day in the fresh air. It would be an act of criminal negligence to allow this house building to occur within its boundaries.

Additional Information

The Friends of Baildon Moor object on many grounds and have the full support of locals. A recent poll rated this as the top issue.
It sets a precedent for developing on former green belt common land.
An access road built has concreted over protected land illegally.
The environment has been obliterated eliminating bird habitats, altering water courses & an endangered fern put at risk (only place in Yorkshire) and it will be visible from the top of the moor which easily overlooks the walls.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The decision to develop the site at Baildon Moor appears to be one to be taken by your local council and not the UK Government. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are and how to contact them:

www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors

Once an application is made for the development to take place, all local residents have the right to request that a planning application be ‘called in’ by the Department for Communities and Local Government. This means that it will assess the planning application against certain criteria and decide if a full inquiry is needed. For more information, including the criteria and how to request the call in of a planning application, see:

http://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/SN00930/SN00930.pdf

You could also contact your local MP, who may wish to request the decision is called in if they agree with you. You can use this page to find out who your local MP is and how to contact them:

http://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/

If you want the UK Government or Parliament to take action, for example to amend the legislation and policy framework which governs planning and development decisions taken by local authorities, you could start a new petition specifically asking for that action, giving as your reasons the proposal to develop at Baildon Moor and its likely effects.
