Force media outlets to use Daesh instead of IS, ISIL, ISIS and similar.
There has been a previous successful petition asking for the government to use the term Daesh when talking about the radical terrorist group. It is time for the media to follow suit.
Why should this be?
The benefits of such change would cut the ties of the group to any religion and their so called state, de-politicising them. The government has already expressed their views on the 'evil death cult' that 'is neither a true representation of Islam nor a state' https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/112845?reveal_response=yes#response-threshold. Referring to them as IS, ISIL etc. only furthers their influence and helping their cause. They need to be condemned not publicised.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
This is a matter for media editors, about their editorial guidelines, and not for Parliament or Government. You could contact media organisations directly to make this suggestion.
