Teens and young adults with Type 1 Diabetes have a right to PIP.
Type 1 diabetes is a life long, life threatening condition. Current government legislation does consider it to be a disability for children aged 16 and above. PIP would give them the financial help they need to fund the additional things they need to become independent.
It is a proven fact that without the help and support of parents/health professionals and peers. Adolescents would struggle to cope with the day to day care of dealing with the challenges of Type 1 diabetes. They are more likely to be hospitalised and suffer damage to their bodies that come with poor management. The policies of this current government, denies them the support they need during these difficult years. PIP awards would help these young people cope with the financial strain of daily living, and give recognition that Type 1 diabetes is a disability.
