HMT Lancastria ( allow the files to be open to the public and relatives now)
The sinking of the troopship HMT Lancastria on the 17th June 1940 evacuating troops and civilians from France was "hushed up" at the time, and indeed to this day it is not as well known as a tragedy as those maritime disasters of 1912 and 1914.
In fact, the loss of life on the Lancastria was greater than on the Titanic and the Lusitania combined.
Please now lift the "100 year rule" on disclosure of the file held on the events surrounding the loss of HMT Lancastria.
