Reinstate Olympic Weightlifting as a sport for assessment at A level
The examination boards in UK have removed Olympic Weightlifting from the approved sports for students to be assessed at A level. It is an Olympic Sport and has been since 1896, derivatives of the movements are widely used by many other sportsmen/women to increase, strength, speed and power.
Olympic Sports and moreover funded by The National Lottery and Sport England Sports shops be encouraged and do remove Olympic Weightlifting and have Gaelic Football, Dance and Rock climbing assessed sports is wrong. One of the founding Sports in 1896 at the modern Olympics and our children cannot be assessed on it at A level.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Examination boards are responsible for approving which sports are assessed at A Level, not the UK Government or Parliament. If you feel that Olympic Weightlifting should be included as an approved sport, you could contact examination boards and ask for more information on how to include it in future years.
