Fixed odds betting terminals (FOBTs), should be banned in the UK.
A fixed odds betting terminal (FOBT) is an electromechanical device normally found in betting shops in the UK that allows players to bet on the outcome of various games and events with fixed odds.
Panorama - Why are Gambling Machines Addictive? was broadcast on BBC One on 12/9/16. FOBTs' potential for harm to society is too great to ignore, as they combine potentially high stakes with the chance of a win every 20 seconds. Consequently, FOBTs are highly addictive and bring the gambling industry £1.7 bn a year in revenue. There are now c35,000 of these terminals in Britain. Industry-funded research revealed rates of problem gambling are as high as 23% among some machine players.
