Petition Action

Make it illegal for the press to use entrapment to produce 'sensational' stories

Petition Details

It is too easy for journalists to entrap an unsuspecting victim into revealing information that they wouldn't volunteer if they knew that they were talking to the press.
This can cause people to lose their jobs or cause humiliation
It is deceitful and fraudulent. But is it in the public interest.

Additional Information

Sex Scandals, Politicians, Celebrities. The only reason they do it is to increase their market share, yet claim it is in the public interest.
This could ruin an aspiring politician, business person or celebrity for a good scoop.
Most recent case is Sam Alerdice, the former England Manager, who revealed some embarrassing 'trade secrets' to what he thought were businessmen, but were gutter press.
