Petition Action

Review the minimum size of retail car parking bays.

Petition Details

Most retail car parking bays are now not big enough for an everyday family sized vehicle. Its is a struggle even for an able bodied person to enter and exit a car safely without bumping the car in the next car parking bay.

Additional Information

There are also people with health and mobility problems who do not qualify for a blue disabled badge that must find this task near impossible if not painful. There simply is not sufficient room to enter or exit a vehicle safely. Its is also not always possible for parents to park in parent and child car parking bays, It is near impossible to remove a child car seat with baby seated in most standard retail car parking bays safely.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The size of car parking bays in private car parks is not the responsibility of the Government or Parliament.

You could start a new petition calling on Parliament to change the law, to set a legal minimum size for all car parking spaces.
