Save Salisbury's historic Market Place frm developers
Salisbury, in Wiltshire, is a medieval market town, with the tallest spired Cathedral in Europe. The City, and nearby Stonehenge, attract thousands of visitors each year, many of whom come from overseas.
Wiltshire Council, Salisbury City Council, and the QuANGO 'Salisbury Vision' are planning to destroy the character and ambience of Salisbury's historic Market Place; fell 34 mature trees, relocate the citizens' War Memorial and remove all car parking (including Blue Badge parking) from the square. The stated intension is to create an open space which can be used for 'large scale public events'.
We call upon the Government to intervene and prevent this destruction of our national heritage, and to order a public enquiry into the issue..
