Give common law rights to nonhuman animals in the UK
Nonhuman animals are seen as mere 'things' which means they have no legal right to basic rights. They lack the fundamental rights of bodily integrity and bodily liberty. This gives rise to abuse and cruelty.
If nonhuman animals were seen as 'persons' they would have legal rights. Our relationship with animals needs to change and develop, they are not our property, their lives are their own.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
