Enact primary legislation to prevent prisoners from suing HM government over voting rights
The government should introduce primary legislation to state that no claim against HM government by a prisoner for loss of voting rights shall be paid, and any court in the United Kingdom shall dismiss such claims accordingly, regardless of the rulings of any court outside the United Kingdom.
For epetitons site: none of the current petitions on this issue ask for the government to introduce new legislation, or implicitly amend the human rights act as the legislation I have suggested does. The existing petitions vaguely request the government doesn't pay compensation, which under current law would be unlawful. Also, no existing petitions ask for legislation that would direct UK courts to ignore rulings from the European courts.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.
You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
