For the UK and Yemen to sign an extradition treaty
With the revolution currently taking place in Yemen,
President Saleh’s removal from power after 33 years of rule is a feasible scenario.
Whatever transitional government takes its place, and with the extensive assistance Yemen receives from the UK and US governments it needs to do more to ensure that Yemen plays a wider role in the international community.
With the continuing war on terror it is not acceptable that Yemen continues to deny extradition requests from the UK and US of wanted terrorists and criminals.
There needs to be a legal framework in place for the return of persons accused or convicted of serious offences from Yemen to the UK.Yemen and the UK government should sign an extradition treaty ensuring that this happens.
