Phonics in schools

Additional Information

It is with great dispair that i heard on the BBC news yesterday that the Government was planning to role out phonics teaching in schools to teach our children to read.

I have a three year old daughter who has been taught to read, write and pronounce words and the alphabet correctly and as an adult would speak.

The English language is full of anomolies when it comes to pronunciation and it is not as simple as saying all words with certain letters should be read and spoken the same.

I fear that all the good work done by myself is going to be undone when my daughter goes to school and is told that she is saying her alphabet incorrectly.

I would like the government to carry out further research into the use of phonics in schools and whether they really want to be teaching our children twice (once with phonics and once correctly) or worse still if we have a generation of young adults unable to speak correctly.
