Petition Action

Allow Gluten Free Staples on Prescription.

Petition Details

Cutting Gluten Free staples from prescription effects the quality of life of coeliacs.

In the long run it will not save the NHS money but infact cost more as general gluten free food is expensive and full of sugars and fats. Which can lead to other conditions such as diabetes.

Additional Information

Gluten is also linked to infertility.

Those who cannot afford it, reintroduction of gluten can lead to cancer as well as many other effects. A low income mother may choose to buy food for her children rather than buy a £4.00 loaf of bread.

The main ingredients in commercial food is rice & potato flour, which have a high G.I. that isn't good for diabetics & those on verge of diabetes.
Prescription staples are a necessity. Cutting to save costs will lead to rising costs in other areas.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This is a decision for local Clinical Commissioning Groups, not the Government or Parliament. Many local CCGs do offer gluten free staples on prescription already.

You could start a new petition calling for CCGs to be required to fund the provision of gluten free staples on prescription.
