Petition Action

Stop Southern Rail operator from increasing rail fares from January 2017.

Petition Details

The service on the Southern network has been riddled by industrial action throughout this year, resulting in major changes to train timetables. Most routes are operating massively reduced services with cancellations across the board, every single day. Why should we pay more for this non -service?

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The price of rail fares on Southern Rail is the responsibility of Southern Rail, not of the Government.

You could sign the petition below, which asks the Government to strip Southern Rail of its franchise and take control of the rail system. This would then allow the Government to set the price of rail fares.
