Stop fining the homeless under Hackney Council’s Public Space Protection Order
Homeless people could be fined up to £1,000 for sleeping in doorways near popular tourist spots under new rules launched by Hackney council.
This is a vile and cruel criminalisation of the most vulnerable in society.
The money used to in criminal proceedings should be used to help instead.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This decision was made by Hackney Council.
If you live in Hackney, you could raise your issue with a local councillor, who represents you. You can use this page to find out who your local councillors are, and how to contact them:
www.gov.uk/find-your-local-councillors
You can also petition the council - you can find out more here:
http://www.hackney.gov.uk/assets/documents/E-petitions-Guidance.pdf
If you want the Government or Parliament to take action, you could ask them to change the law, so that local councils no longer have the power to issue fines in this way.
