Ban filibustering in parliament. Politicians debate as adults not preschoolers!
MP Mhairi Black’s private member’s bill to reform the benefits sanctions regime was debated in parliament on Friday 2 December. The bill was to help the most vulnerable.
Due to parliamentary laws, the bill was talked out/heckled by the government before there was a vote.
Disgusting behaviour!
Filibustering does not set a good example to younger generations of the democratic process or good behaviour!
Tory MP David Nuttal heckled Black during the debate, claiming that claimants were “terrified they might get a job”. (2/12/16).
A bill to pardon gay people convicted under old legislation was also talked out (21/10/16).
Bill to teach children to save lives was derailed (23/10/16).
The bill to give caters free parking was blocked by incessant talking for 93 minutes (30/11/15).
