Guarantee the provision of "associate EU citizenship" during Brexit negotiations
We ask that the British Government, with respect of the 16 million people who voted to remain within the EU, to accept, support, and propose, a strong notion of "associate EU citizenship", and provide funds to cover any membership fee under such agreement to those unable to reasonably afford it.
Guy Verhofstadt, MEP and chief negotiator Brexit negotiator for the EU Parliament, is proposing to offer citizens of former EU member states (such as the UK) "associate membership" to the EU, allowing them to retain some or all of the rights of full European citizenship.
Under no circumstances during Brexit negotations should the Government deny UK citizens the right to make a personal choice to retain rights and privileges of EU membership, at cost, if it is made directly to them by the EU.
