Hands Off Our Land
We call for the Government to review the proposed changes to planning laws to ensure that the safeguards which have protected the countryside for almost 70 years are not undermined.
Default positions should include:
• ‘Brownfield’ sites should be developed before ‘greenfield’ applications are approved
• Developers’ existing pools of approved sites (land banks) should be developed before new applications are granted
• The ‘deep pockets’ of big business should not be allowed to ‘buy’ favourable decisions by pursuing costly legal challenges that local communities and councils are not able to match
