Petition Action

Boycott the 2018 Russia World Cup unless the host country is changed

Petition Details

After the revelations during 2016 over a state sponsored doping program in Russia, how can we as a country send our national team to the World Cup there? This is ethically unacceptable for us, and as a country I feel we need to stand up to doping, as it has no place in any sport.

Additional Information

FIFA the poor organisation they are clearly aren't going to do anything, as they would prefer to spend there time dealing with poppy's.

We have plenty of European country's, including ourselves that could put together an infrastructure capable of holding a World Cup within twelve months, but for this to work we need to act soon.

Let's get 100,000 signatures together, and take this too the government, and show them they have the country's support in the fight against State Sponsored Doping.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure what action you would like the UK Government or Parliament to take. If you would like Government ministers to boycott the 2018 World Cup, then you could start a new petition asking them to do that.

However, if you would like the football teams of the home nations to boycott the 2018 World Cup, then that is a matter for the Football Associations in each of the home nations and not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament. We can only accept petitions about things that the UK Government and Parliament are responsible for.
