Only people who pay taxes are allowed to vote in the UK
I am petitioning to only allow people who are paying taxes in the UK to be allowed to vote in elections and referendum in the UK.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We're not sure whether you would like people who pay any kind of tax - such as Value Added Tax on things they buy - to be able to vote, or whether you would like only people who pay certain kinds of taxes to be able to vote.
It's also not clear whether you would like to extend the right to vote to people who pay tax in the UK but don't already have the right to vote - such as people who are not British citizens, citizens of the Republic of Ireland or qualifying Commonwealth citizens.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. You'll need to give your full, real name to start a petition.
