I want the "Fit To Fly" policy for animals flying to the UK reviewed

Petition Details

I recently had an awful experience of adopting a cat from Cyprus who I thought was healthy. Unfortunately he wasn't and had a very serious rectal prolapse which, following veterinarian checks was inoperable. The most human solution was to euthanize him. He should have never been allowed to fly!

Additional Information

My vet confirmed the rectal prolapse and also confirmed he had no sphincter either. He was feacally incontinent as a result and the condition was life threatening. In total, Tiheros received 5 seperate opinions on a solution, including that of the leading soft tissue specialist in Europe, but it was deemed unethical and inhumane to keep him alive. Less than 3 weeks after bringing him home we had to put him to sleep. That he was ever deemed "Fit To Fly" is disgraceful and needs to be reviewed.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We're not sure what you mean by the "fit to fly" policy. If you're concerned about the regulations for pet passports, you could start a new petition asking the UK Government to work with other EU countries to make a specific change to these regulations.
