Implement psychological well-being into the National Curriculum
A childs' development is fundamental for their continued success and well-being in later adult life. Schools should have a statutory responsibility to integrate psychological well-being education and support through integrating emotional coping and resilience strategies into the National Curriculum.
1 in 4 people will experience a Mental Health issue in their lifetime. With Mental health being one of the main causes of the overall disease burden worldwide, and depression being the second largest cause of disability.
Educational establishments provide opportunity for students to develop academic, vocational, interpersonal and employability skills, yet fundamental psychological skills (i.e. coping, stress management) are very rarely discussed, let alone taught, understood or integrated.
