Remove the powers local authorities have to switch off street lights at night.
Several authorities have switched off street lights at night, regardless of possible crime and safety consequences. The latest is Surrey County Council, to save £210,000 a year, a mere pittance in relative terms, and an amount that could surely be saved by, for example, axing the Chief Exec post.
