When baby is delivered, even if very premature, should be issued
The recent baby ashes scandal involving Scottish crematoria shows that parents need to be given thoughtful support during the grieving process
This should include the behaviour of hospital staff for very early premature births
The mother must be given all assistance to accept the loss
This was prompted by a story line in Coronation Street, but it brings into question the imposition of procedures over tenderness
It is surely easier to issue a birth and death certificate in such cases than for the already burdened mental health services to try and heal the damage later
