Core travel infrastructure should seek ACAS approval prior to strike action
2016 has seen various industrial strike actions due various industrial disputes. The Government should appoint an independent body i.e. ACAS (Advisory, Conciliation & Arbitration Service) to mediate between core travel businesses and Unions to ensure that any strike action is avoided where possible.
2016 saw an increase in strike action a total of 269,000 days lost due to industrial action since October 2016. This is over a 50% increase to the figures of 2015 which is 169,000 days lost due to industrial action (figures from Office for National Statistics)
Core travel infrastructure industrial actions needs to assure that Unions voices are heard with assurance that their request to strike are reasonable & limited. Strike action causes increased travel time and costs to thousands of commuters
