Petition Action

Make it illegal for anyone or company to pass on your email to a 2nd party.

Petition Details

Every day people get emails from companies that they have never signed up to and when you click on the unsubscribe you still get emails or the link will not do anything. Why does this not come under the data protection laws.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It is already against data protection laws to pass on email addresses without consent in some circumstances. We are therefore not sure what further action you want the UK Government or Parliament to take.

You can find out more about what the law says about unwanted emails, and how you can complain about a specific organisation, on the Information Commissioner's Office website:

ico.org.uk/for-the-public/online/spam-emails/

You could start a new petition asking for the Information Commissioner to be given more powers for enforcing existing data protection laws.
