The uk requires a referendum to vote on staying in the single market.
Voting to leave the EU was the question to the UK in the brexit referendum, this question did not suggest leaving the single market, and many voters were persuaded to vote to leave the EU but remain in the single trading market with other countries such as Norway and Switzerland.
