Prevent hysterical, knee-jerk, populist petitions dictating UK foreign policy.
PM Theresa May was invited to be the first foreign leader to meet with President Trump. The honour was reciprocated by the offer to Trump of a State visit to the UK. Any revocation of the offer would undermine the special relationship and consequently, Britain's post Brexit bargaining position.
