Compel the BBC to cast Sophie Okonedo as the next Dr Who.
Sophie Okonedo is an actor of immense talent, global renown and commercial success. Crucially, her African, Jewish and British heritage would make her the perfect Dr Who for our times. Neither a woman nor a person of colour has ever been cast as "the Doctor". She would thus be an inspiration.
Sophie Okonedo is the change Britain needs right now. She is an national institution and embodies the very best of Britishness. As Dr Who, she would be magical on screen and an unparalleled cultural ambassador off it.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.
You might like to write to the BBC to make this suggestion.
