help for the people self employed signed off work ill or injured for a long time

Petition Details

I'm in the construction trade, classed as self employed,if i don't work i don't get paid, i recently had an injury which caused me fractures and an operation, i was signed off work, told i can't get statutory sick pay i can only get ESA which is about £50 a week, which someone can barely live on.

Additional Information

i was told by some people over the phone about the ESA and they said that the benefit will be backed up to the date i put down and then i get a letter saying they dont pay you for the first week but they didnt pay me for the 1st week or the 2nd, thats 2 weeks without money nobody can live like that.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do to help people who are self-employed and who have been signed off sick or injured.
